Chinese Herbal Medicine
What Are Chinese Herbs?
Chinese Herbalism is part of a comprehensive system called ‘Traditional Chinese Medicine’.
Chinese tonic herbalism is derived from the great Daoist (Taoist) tradition of China. Daoism is the fundamental Asian philosophy of balance and living in harmony with Nature. The Daoist tradition of health attainment emphasizes that the superior herbs are in many ways superior in nutrition to the foods most commonly eaten. Indeed, millions of people over thousands of years have found this to be true.
The tonic herbs are defined as “herbs that promote a long, healthy, vibrant, happy life, without side effects, even when taken over a long period of time.” Essentially, the tonic herbs are wonderful, healthful “super-foods” which benefit our well being in ways that more common foods cannot. They have a protective, balancing, vitalizing quality beyond that of any other herbs. They are generally consumed as a supplement to a well balanced healthy diet for the purpose of completing our nutritional needs and enhancing our nutritional profile.
Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years to promote health, longevity, and heal disease in the body. The Chinese have long known about substances that prolong life, build ‘Qi, Jing and Shen’, and promote Radient Health. In China, Radient health is health that is beyond danger. Today the wisdom of the ancients is being put through western analysis, and it has been discovered that some of the most beneficial substances that heal and restore the body are found in HUGE amounts in Chinese Herbs.
Quality – Not All Herbs Are The Same
Here at Lotus Integrated Health, we aim to provide the highest quality, organic, Non GMO, herbs and supplements.
Where herbs are grown drastically effects the quality and the level of the active ingredients. The Chinese have understood for centuries that the enviornment that the herbs are grown, or collected is extremely important to the potency and quality of the product taken. The same herb grown in different environments yield vastly different plants and greatly effects the levels of active ingredients.
It is therefore important to grow and harvest herbs from only places where they are grow naturally. Usually this is far away from polution, society and the infulence of modern society. No chemicals or pesticides.
The same can be said for how they are picked, dried and processed. All herbs are to be treated with respect, carefully processed, minimizing damage and bruising and therefore creating superior supplements
The herbs used here at Lotus, are often collected as far away from society as one can imagine. For instance wild bhutanese cordyceps is hand gathered high up in the Himalayas.

The 3 treasures of Chinese Herbalism – Jing, Qi & Shen
To easily understand the 3 treasures of Chinese Medicine, we can say that your life is like that of a candle.
The wax and the wick form the body or the substance of the candle. This equates to our Jing. It is the very essence of the candle or our body. The size, shape and nature of the candle itself predict its life expectancy.
The flame corresponds to our Qi – or the life force or energy of the candle. It is the activity of the candle itself. The brighter the light the bigger our Qi… Eventually this flame consumes the candle.
Our Shen is the light given off by the candle. The better the Jing and Qi the brighter the light of our candle. The shen represents the “spirit” of the candle and is the whole point for the candles existence. To nourish our Shen, is to nourish our spirit.
Chinese medicine and in particular Chinese herbalism aims to restore, protect and nourish the 3 treasures of the human being.
All 3 must be in balance and abundant to live a long healthy life.
