Asian Body Work
What is Asian Body Work?
The name Asian Body Work is a term used to describe a whole system of manual treatments on the body.
As trained professionals, we use a combination of these methods, depending on what the body requires to relax the muscles and restore the flow of Qi to the body.
In Chinese Medicine, Blood and Qi are intimately linked. From a Western perspective, by restoring the flow of blood to a muscle in spasm is to improve circulation. This in turn brings much needed nutrients for the optimum function of the cells, removes unwanted wastes that have been trapped and greatly reduces inflammation.
Asian Body Work feels AMAZING!
Executed correctly by our trained professionals, you will leave the treatment room stunned at how relaxed and wonderful you can feel and be.
Cupping
Cupping or Fire Cups are an intergal part of any Asian Body Work session.
The cups are used to place extended pressure on the spindal cells in the muscles. This extended pressure tells the brain to relax the muscle.
By pulling blood and Qi through overly tight muscles, the cups pull unwanted toxins and stagnant blood from your muscles (blood stagnation).
At first many patients experience bruising. Please note that this process DOES NOT HURT like a bruise. It is quite the opposite. When cupping is done correctly it feels wonderful.
Unwanted toxins and stagnant blood is pulled out of the muscles and the new and nutrient rich blood can then flow in and restore the body to radiant and optimal health.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese method. Gua means “to scrape” and Sha translates to “light bruising”.
Applying pressure to injured areas of the body with specificially designed tools promotes the flow of Qi and blood. The process removes unwanted toxins from the muscles and encourages blood flow which promotes healing in the underlying tissues.
Gua Sha should not hurt, although a light reddness or a very light bruising can occur. Gua Sha is wonderful for relieving tension in tight muscles. You will leave your treatment feeling relaxed.
Moxabustion
Moxabustion is an ancient technique of applying a herb called ‘Mugwort’ to areas of the body that are ‘cold’ in nature.
This ‘cold’ can get lodged in meridians and muscles, impeding the flow of blood and Qi to an area.
By applying Mugwort we effectively heat up the area and restore the flow of Qi and blood.
Moxabusion is an extremely effective way of warming the cold areas on the body. By heating or applying Mugwort to the acupuncture pins, the heat is transferred right down into the belly of the muscle or acupuncture point.
The sensation is never hot, but rather a lovely warming sensation. You will leave the treatment feeling relaxed and wanting more.
The Trifecta of Traditional Chinese Massage: Tui Na, Trigger Point Massage & Shiatsu
These methods of massage are used by the trained Traditional Chinese Practitioner to apply pressure to acupuncture points.
By applying pressure and finding the “level of Qi” in the muscle, our skilled practitioners can effectly relax entire regions of tissues from a single point.
Tui Na, Trigger Point and Shiatsu massage also often involves rotating limbs, stretching and relieving tension in the joints and along the meridians where the Qi flows.
